Do We Need to Stay In
While Americans are thinking about Do We Need to Stay In Iraq, are they researching and investigating any of their assumptions through the world wide net? I know many Americans who don’t have computers, don’t surf the net, listen to the radio rather then news on countless cable stations and networks, chat on forums, read blogs, local and national newspapers, magazines and some so fed up they refuse to stay informed but have a bunch of opinions, the American people.
If I’m not mistaken and I have been on occasion, the United Nations tied the

Now if an American expressed the desire to kill our President they would be jailed, while the Iranian President can say death to all Americans and get away with it.
The resolve of the American people in the end will dictate our future, while our present administration, headed by our nations second Bush has clearly paved out a road map to what he and others see as the course for our nation to proceed. To say one Bush was right and the other wrong and or both were either right or wrong with the cards dealt them is really a mute statement and now only history will decide our future based on present government policies.
Whether we should stay in Iraq until the Iraq government can assume their sovereign role over their territory, providing protection for their people through a strengthened Armed Forces is clearly in our best interest, yet if Iraq aligns itself with Iran in part do to regional and inner city security issues and or ideological and religious similarities between both countries, clearly the U. S. will have to decide if we should remain while at odds with Iran.
To pull out and abandon all hopes for a brighter future for not only countless millions of Iraq citizens who only desire to live in peace, not to mention the particulars clearly pointed out in the Coalition Provisional Authority Press Room in relationship to the many, many accomplishments achieved thus far in Iraq, but a stable region in the middle east is clearly in the best interest of the world.

As far as the Civil War theory, is it real or is it a myth? Clearly there are those who desire to rule in the presence of Iraq’s present democracy, which by the way has evolved into more freedoms then they had while the Baptist regime was in power and given time will most likely see greater freedoms of worship and civil liberties, liberties that are presently in place, yet many fear the bullies and assembly often results in terrorist attacks killing hundreds, thereby making it appear sometimes there are limited civil liberties when in reality there are, because thousands aren’t rallying and protesting or desecrating the dear departed at funeral ceremonies like Americans in our country are free to do.
Clearly if Iran partners with Iraq, all hopes of democracy would soon be squelched unless Iran recognizes Iraq’s sovereign right to become a democracy and while the Iraq’s President through his Foreign Minister recently sought out Iran’s assistance with security of his nation, full well knowing Iran is backing and funding insurgents within Iraq, illustrates that without the U. S. assistance until Iraq can stand on its own, will merely invite Iran to become even a greater influence in the affairs of Iraq. The

While we wait, Iran becomes stronger and more countries gather to her side witnessing the U. S. resolve to fight the war on terror but no military action other then operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unless our government does something soon, within a matter of 6-months or less, Iran will have a reactor on line.
Iran has been identified as the world’s leading state sponsor of international terrorism, funding Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, and Hamas, as well as Shiite insurgent groups, Iran is even recruiting its youth and students across the Middle East for suicide operations against Western targets.
Religious extremism, particularly Islamic fundamentalism, is one of the key dangers in the world today. The Iranian President is a religious extremist who believes that it is his destiny to trigger a period of chaos, war and bloodshed in order for Islam to dominate the world.
Nuclear proliferation is one of the greatest dangers to world peace. We must act to stop Iran before it can develop nuclear technology, because the Iranian President has said that he would share nuclear technology with other Muslims.
The President of Iran believes that he is creating an Islamic “superpower,” which will bring down the West, including the United States. He says that he will have hundreds of millions of Muslim “holy raiders” eager to become martyrs.
The Iranian President does not believe the Holocaust happened and has called for the destruction of Israel. If we do not act, we run the risk of placating an extremist and making the same mistake we made with Hitler, which led to World War II and the deaths of millions.

The election of the hard-line Teheran mayor, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, over former President Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani as the new head of Iran is undeniably a setback for those hoping to advance greater social and political freedom in that country. It should not necessarily be seen as a turn to the right by the Iranian electorate, however. The 70-year old Rafsanjani—a cleric and penultimate wheeler-dealer from the political establishment—was portrayed as the more moderate conservative. The fact that he had become a millionaire while in government was apparently seen as less important than his modest reform agenda. By contrast, the young Teheran mayor focused on the plight of the poor and cleaning up corruption.
In Iran, real political power rests with unelected military, economic, and right-wing ideologues, and in the June 25 runoff election, Iranian voters were forced to choose between two flawed candidates. The relatively liberal contender came across as an out-of-touch elitist, and his ultraconservative opponent was able to assemble a coalition of rural, less-educated, and fundamentalist voters to conduct a pseudopopulist campaign based on promoting morality and value-centered leadership. Such a political climate should not be unfamiliar to American voters.
Washington’s primary criticisms of Teheran focus on the Iranian government’s suppression of political freedom, its support for terrorism and subversion, and its nuclear program.
I don't like the way this article was written, but these facts shuld remind us as to who were dealing with.

TOTAL'S CONTRACT WITH IRAN: A CHALLENGE TO 'PAX AMERICANA'?
The announcement on Sunday by the French energy company, Total, that a consortium it leads had signed a $2-billion contract with Iran to develop a major gas field in the Persian Gulf moved editors in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America to conclude that a "major confrontation" was in the making between the U.S. and the EU over trade sanctions against Iran.
At issue are sanctions outlined in the 1996 Iran-Libya Sanctions Act--also referred to as the D'Amato act-- which would require President Clinton to impose sanctions on any foreign country investing more than $40 million a year in Iran or Libya's energy industries. Paris's right-of-center Le Figaro predicted a particularly dire situation:
"Between the U.S. and Europe, we are in for a war with commercial and political repercussions." A majority of commentators focused on what they said was the "center of the debate": international objection to what they perceived as the U.S.' imposition of "extra-territorial" legislation in contravention of international laws of commerce. Without exception, analysts railed against what they saw as U.S. attempts to "legislate to the world." "The arrogance with which the U.S. tramples on international law and the WTO...cannot be accepted," intoned left-of-center Frankfurter Rundschau. A number of observers saw in the French-led consortium's deal-making with Iran a challenge to the world's remaining superpower and its "Pax Americana." Moscow's reformist, business-oriented Kommersant Daily judged that "suddenly”, both Europe and Russia [are] flaunting their independence from the Americans. America's striving for domination does not endear it to Europe and prompts the Europeans to form a united opposition front."
In Cairo, pro-government Al-Ahram contended that the French company's move "took courage" and that this "French defiance should be an example to all countries" that must deal with America. One daily in Islamabad implored Muslims the world over to "take a unified action...to reject U.S. extra-territorial legislation on Muslim and non-Muslim countries alike." A few media voices targeted their criticism at more than just the U.S., seeing "opportunism" as the deciding factor for all nations--including the Europeans--as they pursue their foreign policy and economic agendas.
Other commentators examined the possible courses President Clinton might take to head off a full-fledged "trade war" between the U.S. and the EU over Iran. Many agreed with Paris's right-of-center Le Figarothat this was the dilemma facing the U.S. president: "To punish Total means to enter into a major crisis with Europe.... To do nothing would mean recognizing America's weakness." A number of analysts joined London's liberal Guardian in its call for "calm diplomacy" and compromise between the trading partners. Several pundits held out hope that a solution would be forth coming. Others, however, were far less sanguine. Ankara's pro-Islamic Zaman, for example, insisted that America will not bend on its policy toward Iran.
Only a minority of observers addressed what one referred to as "the main question: What to do with Iran, which is suspected of being involved in terrorism?" A few, concluding that the U.S. policy of isolating Iran has been a "failure," endorsed the EU's "critical dialogue" policy of limited engagement with Tehran. But more acknowledged that really "nobody knows how to deal with a provocative state like Iran that challenges the international community."

While we wait, Iran becomes stronger and more countries gather to her side witnessing the U. S. resolve to fight the war on terror but no military action other then operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unless our government does something soon, within a matter of 6-months or less, Iran will have a reactor on line.
Iran has been identified as the world’s leading state sponsor of international terrorism, funding Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, and Hamas, as well as Shiite insurgent groups, Iran is even recruiting its youth and students across the Middle East for suicide operations against Western targets.
Religious extremism, particularly Islamic fundamentalism, is one of the key dangers in the world today. The Iranian President is a religious extremist who believes that it is his destiny to trigger a period of chaos, war and bloodshed in order for Islam to dominate the world.
Nuclear proliferation is one of the greatest dangers to world peace. We must act to stop Iran before it can develop nuclear technology, because the Iranian President has said that he would share nuclear technology with other Muslims.
The President of Iran believes that he is creating an Islamic “superpower,” which will bring down the West, including the United States. He says that he will have hundreds of millions of Muslim “holy raiders” eager to become martyrs.
The Iranian President does not believe the Holocaust happened and has called for the destruction of Israel. If we do not act, we run the risk of placating an extremist and making the same mistake we made with Hitler, which led to World War II and the deaths of millions.

A top European Union negotiator said Wednesday that "endless hours" of talks with Iran about its nuclear program have failed to make any progress, while the Iranian president said U.N. sanctions would not stop Tehran from enriching uranium.

Iran’s predetermined plan too secure their nuclear technology program and advancement was well thought out, and a pretty good strategy, and from what I can see, as far back as 2002, which was and is to align their economy with foreign investment and gain international support because know country, Banks or the World Bank wants to loose there investment or loose out on the opportunity of an investment.
Furthermore, countries throughout the region and as far as South America desire to participate in foreign investment within Iran.
Economic sanctions by the U. S. when there are no U. S. businesses doing business in Iran won’t affect Iran/U. S. investment, while not knowing Iran’s export of products to the U. S., my guess is they presently export to countries that in turn export products to the U. S. and with some research I guess I could find out how much oil of Iran’s is actually making it to the U. S. via various open markets and brokers, oil companies, etc.
Clearly foreign investment in Iran by countries throughout the world is presently the U. S. largest obstacle in relationship to implementing U. S. Policy with the United Nations and our nation’s allies.
Also, the need for growing economies in those countries in the middle east requiring oil, natural gas, etc. will increasing impact on global realities and it is my belief that Iran believes international pressure will increase against U. S., policies causing the U. S. to weaken there present hard line stance toward Iran’s advancing nuclear technology program, resulting in one of four or possibly two concurrent results of consequences from Iran’s resolve:
Iran agrees to the U. S. Inspection program of nuclear energy related technologies and halt goals of enrichment of uranium;
Iran continues their Nuclear Technologies program uninhibited by the U. S. and international community;
Economic sanctions by the U. S. and a reluctant international community, in which many countries will not take part and or
War between Iran and the U. S. over enrichment of uranium

Iranian bloggers are presenting a wide range of view points from supporting Liberty and Freedom to condemning both Israel for their military response to the kidnapping of two soldiers to Iran’s involvement backing Hezbollah.
The Iranian Press and news agencies are not allowed to report world wide reactions or openly discuss the issues of Iran’s Nuclear Energy Policies, a firm fist of censorship by the Iran government.

With Iraq seeking Iran's security help makes me think we need to bring our soldiers home. I guess if you can't stop em over there, you must join them so you can at least have one side stronger then the other in their Civil War.

World powers have offered Iran light water reactors and a guaranteed supply of nuclear fuel in return for a halt to its sensitive enrichment and reprocessing activities.
But Iran says as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) it has a right to nuclear enrichment and to produce its own fuel.
The heavy water reactor's plutonium by-product can be used for making atomic warheads but Iran insists its nuclear programme is purely peaceful and aimed only at generating energy.
Unlike light water plants, heavy water reactors do not need enriched uranium fuel in order to function. But even in a light water electricity plant the uranium need only be enriched to 3.5-5 percent, well short of the level needed to produce a nuclear bomb.

MILITARY TARGETS AS I SEE IT:
The international concerns about Iran’s nuclear weapons program has largely arisen from Jafarzadeh’s stunning revelations about 7 major previously secret nuclear sites, including the sites in Natanz, Arak, Karaj, Ab-Ali, and Tehran.
Jafarzadeh revealed the existence of Natanz uranium enrichment facility, and Arak's heavy water facility in August 2002, Ab-Ali centrifuge testing facility near Tehran in February 2003, two additional nuclear sites near Karaj in May 2003, and two other new nuclear sites in Kolahdouz military complex in Tehran, and Ardekan in July 2003. He unveiled the details of Iran’s development of bio-weapons in May 2003, and had previously provided valuable information about the Shahab-3 medium range missile.
On April 27, 2004, Jafarzadeh revealed information that Iran, using some 400 nuclear experts, is now running a secret nuclear weapons program supervised by the military and the Supreme Leader parallel to their overt nuclear energy program. Jafarzadeh had previously unveiled in March, a secret meeting held earlier by Iran’s senior officials where they decided to speed up their nuclear weapons program, while faking cooperation with the IAEA.
March 24, 2005, Jafarzadeh revealed that Iran has actually built a secret underground facility in Tehran’s Parchin military complex where activities related to laser enrichment is carried out.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned here Tuesday that time was running out for the international community if it did not want to lose credibility over the Iranian nuclear problem.
"I hope that there is still room to resolve this," said Rice who is due to take part in a week-end ministerial meeting of the six countries involved in the discussions on Iran's nuclear threat.
"But the international community is running out of time because soon its own credibility in terms of enforcing its own resolutions will be (...) a matter of question," said Rice, who is pressing for sanctions.
The European Union's foreign policy supremo Javier Solana and Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani wound up their third series of meetings last week saying simply that "progress" had been made and agreeing to a fresh "contact" this week.
But Washington warned that the United States would give European negotiators until the end of the week to convince Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program, and then pursue sanctions if Tehran fails to comply.
Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns, the State Department's point man on Iran, told The Washington Times that the final round of talks scheduled this week between Solana and Larijani should bring "clarity."
"If Iran's answer is maybe, it's a no," Burns was quoted as saying on Tuesday.
Rice agreed to requests from her counterparts from the other four permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany last month to give the Solana-Larijani talks more time before turning to sanctions, on which Russia and China and to a lesser degree France have expressed reservations.
But the so-called P5-plus-1 nations agreed to set a new deadline this week for Iran to comply with an earlier UN resolution demanding it freeze its uranium enrichment program, which Washington and others believe is a cover for developing nuclear weapons.
"I know that the six parties are committed to the logic of Resolution 1696 or they wouldn't have voted for it," Rice said.
UN Security Council Resolution 1696, adopted at the end of July, gave Tehran until the end of August to suspend enrichment or face sanctions.
Asked about Iran's latest proposal that France should create a consortium to produce enriched uranium on Iranian territory enabling surveillance of Tehran's nuclear activities, Rice dismissed it as an "old idea."
"The idea of a consortium is actually an old idea. It has been around for a while and the Iranians have floated it before. There is a consortium idea that the United States supports, which is the consortium (...) that Russia has proposed, which would be a joint venture but with no enrichment and reprocessing on Iranian soil," she said.
"I fear that this may instead, therefore, be a stalling technique because we don't want to get to the basic issue which is that Iran has to suspend its enrichment and reprocessing in order to begin negotiations," Rice said.
A top Iranian official had said Tuesday the crisis could be resolved if France created a consortium to produce enriched uranium on Iranian soil, a proposal that stops short of Western demands Tehran suspends the sensitive nuclear activity.
"The best solution to dispel the worries about Iran's nuclear activities is not to demand a suspension" of enrichment, the deputy head of Iran's atomic energy organisation, Mohammad Saeedi, said.
"We have an idea that technically and legally is the best solution.
"It is that France creates a consortium with Eurodif and Areva to carry out enrichment in Iran and thus they can closely monitor our nuclear programme," he added, referring to France's enrichment specialist and its parent company.
French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste Blazy said the proposal could only be taken into consideration "after Iran suspends its uranium activities".

Iran test-fired a short-range missile in a demonstration of its "readiness to respond to any threat," state television reported.
The upgraged surface-to-surface missile, called Saegheh or lightning in Farsi, has a range of between 80 and 250 kilometers (50 and 155 miles).
Massive military exercises began Saturday with the aim of testing new weapons and tactics against a potential enemy.
Twelve army divisions along with air and naval forces and missile units are involved in the military operation, named "Zolfaghar Blow" after the two-point sword of Ali, the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Mohammed.
"The enemy has gone insane because of the capabilities of Lebanon's Hezbollah," army chief Major General Ataollah Salehi was quoted as saying by official news agency IRNA Saturday, referring to the Shiite group which was locked in a 34-day conflict with Israel under a ceasefire last week.

The United Nations Security Council has demanded Iran suspend uranium enrichment by the end of the month after Tehran failed to persuade the international community its atomic scientists were working on power stations, not bombs.
Washington has declined to rule out military strikes as a solution to the nuclear dispute.
"The conflict between the United States and Iran must be resolved through diplomatic channels and direct dialogue, because any strike on Iran means the end of stability in the region and the world," Mubarak said in an interview published on Saturday in Egypt's Akhbar al-Youm newspaper.
Iran has set itself an August 22 deadline to respond to an offer of economic incentives designed to persuade it to comply with the suspension demand.
Egypt has not had full diplomatic relations with Tehran in more than 25 years and high-level contacts are rare, usually limited to international meetings. But Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki came to Egypt last week for talks with Mubarak on the conflict in Lebanon and other regional issues.
In April, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit received a telephone call from Mottaki on the nuclear issue, and the ministers agreed to stay in touch.
"Iran is an important country in the region, and relations between countries are governed by pacts and treaties and agreements that prohibit interference in any internal matters of the countries," Mubarak said in the interview.
Egypt, one of 35 countries on the board of the International Atomic Energy Agency, says it is against any nuclear weapons in the Middle East, but wants the dispute resolved peacefully.
Relations between Egypt and Iran were severed when Cairo gave refuge to the deposed Shah of Iran, who died in Egypt. Over the years, the Egyptian government has repeatedly accused Iran of supporting underground Islamist groups.

Iran has some 540,000 men under arms and over 350,000 reserves. They include 120,000 Iranian Revolutionary Guards trained fro land and naval asymmetrical warfare. Iran's military also includes holdings of 1,613 main battle tanks, 21,600 other armored fighting vehicles, 3,200 artillery weapons, 306 combat aircraft, 60 attack helicopters, 3 submarines, 59 surface combatants, and 10 amphibious ships."

The Iranian Navy has some 18,000 men. According to the IISS, this total includes a two brigade marine force of some 2,600 men and a 2,000-man naval aviation force. It has bases at Bandar-e Abbas, Bushehr, Kharg Island, Bander-e Anzelli, Chah Bahar, Bander-e Mahshahar, and Bander-e Khomeini. This gives it bases opposing most of the Saudi coast. It has 3 submarines, 3 frigates, 2 corvettes, 10 missile patrol craft, 7 mine warfare ships, 44 coastal and inshore patrol craft, and 9-10 amphibious ships. Its naval aviation branch is one of the few air elements in any Gulf Navy, and has 5 maritime patrol aircraft, and 19 armed helicopters. When combined with the IRGC naval branch, this is a total maritime strength of 38,000 men with significant capabilities for both regular naval and asymmetric naval warfare.

Air Forces
The Iranian air forces are well aged and in poor maintenance. While mechanical units can be repaired with indigenous labor, Iranian ability to remanufacture avionics is limited. This does not keep them from trying. However, it is the CSIS assessment (and that of MILNET's sources) that the Iranian Air Force is less than functional.
Other CSIS data supports the fact that Iran has increased their modern aircraft numbers significantly since 1996. From some 290 fighter/attack aircraft in inventory, the air force increased their planes by some 130+, all fairly modern and capable. The Iranians have also added a small number (12) attack helicopters, and have plenty more on order.
The CSIS report is actually a little unclear on the actual numbers of aircraft, their notation for the numbers of aircraft in a squadron differs in the same paragraph and we have a hard time "pulling out" the numbers. For instance in one paragraph the data reads
"Iran has seven air defense squadrons, with 2/20-25, -60 U.S. supplied F-14..."
The total could be up to to 50 F-14, but the "-60" is indecipherable unless this is some foreign export version called the "-60"? In any case, the U.S. aircraft in inventory are very poorly maintained, and the CSIS report also states that the Iranians have not been able to fly with Phoenix missiles since high tech materials required to keep them running have been exhausted and the U.S. has seen to it that Iran has not been able to procure replacements.
There is an effort to develop an indigenous aircraft but that does not appear to be viable yet, as are Iranian attempts to license and build MIG-29s. They have purchased two squadrons of the MIG-29s, very capable aircraft, however, any adversary would simply draw them off and go around these two squadrons, probably to face far inferior aircraft in their stead.
One troublesome aspect to Iranian aircraft procurement is the purchase of enough Chinese F-7M aircraft to fill a squadron. These are fairly capable aircraft for the region.

The MILNET assessment is that the aircraft, while theoretically capable (especially in the case of the MiG-29 and F-14) are probably not maintained well enough and their pilots may lack the necessary combat skills in order to adequately pose a serious threat to their neighbors. HOWEVER, having said that, it does not take a lot of skill to let loose an airborne cruise missile upon shipping in the Persian Gulf. Thus the threat is perhaps in the direction of the water, rather than inland. In another report, MILNET looks at how to directly attack Iran in order to take out nuclear reactors and other nuclear development facilities. In that analysis, we purposely assumed that if the Iranians were to put up an aircraft borne defense, it would serve the purpose of the attacking force to remove them from the picture, quickly and efficiently, and with only minimal losses. It would serve both to eliminate that airborne air defense as well as to "pull any remaining teeth" from the Iranian Air Force, and would therefore be welcomed strategically.

Let's assume that Iran has exhausted the world’s patience over its “peaceful nuclear energy” research program - a program most analysts believe is a cover for a nuclear weapons program. Israel has indicated in clear terms that it will not permit Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. What are Israel's options to derail the program?
Most analysts agree that Israel does not have the capability to strike all of the sites associated with the program - estimates range between 12 and more than 20 locations. With limited power projection capabilities, Israeli intelligence analysts will determine the critical portions of the program - the key elements that if destroyed will slow down the effort. In 1981, the Israeli air force successfully crippled the Iraqi nuclear program with a daring daylight air raid on the key element of that program – the French-built Osirak reactor at At-Tuwaythah, just south of Baghdad. The single most critical element In the Iranian program is thought to be the centrifuge facility at Natanz (also known as the Esfahan enrichment facility).

The Natanz facility is a challenging target. The heart of the facility is the centrifuge area, located in an underground, hardened structure. The Iranians are fully aware of Israeli capabilities and no doubt have studied what the Israelis did to the Iraqi program a quarter century ago. They are also aware of the demonstrated capability of the American-made precision-guided penetrating munitions ("bunker busters") in the Israeli inventory. The Iranian program has been dispersed all over the country; the facilities have been built with American and Israeli capabilities in mind and are protected by modern Russian air defense systems.
Aside from the difficult nature of the target itself is its geographic location in relation to Israel. The straight-line distance between Israel and Natanz is almost 1000 miles. (At-Tuwaythah was only 600 miles). Since the countries do not share a common border, Israeli aircraft or missiles must fly through foreign - and hostile - airspace to get to the target.
The least risky method of striking Natanz is with Israel's medium range ballistic missiles, the Jericho II or III. Details on the exact capabilities of these systems are unknown, but it is believed that the Israeli missiles can reach Natanz. However, to travel that far, the missiles will have a limited warhead weight, probably less than 1000 pounds. It is doubtful that these warheads will be able to penetrate far enough underground to achieve the desired level of destruction. That points to an attack by the Israeli air force's American-made fighter-bomber aircraft as the most likely option. The Israelis have 25 F-15I Ra'am (Thunder) and about 30 F-16I Sufa (Storm) jets.

How will the aircraft fly from their bases in Israel to a target located 200 miles inside Iran? There are two realistic ways to get there – either through Saudi Arabia or Iraq, possibly even using Jordanian airspace as well. Either route is a one-way trip of about 1200 miles. Even though Turkey and Israel have had a defense agreement since 1996, using Turkish airspace is not likely politically and would require the attacking aircraft to fly over 1000 miles inside Iranian airspace. It is also doubtful that the Israelis would jeopardize operational security by consulting with the Turks.
The Saudi Arabia option (red). The strike aircraft depart southern Israel, enter Saudi airspace from the Gulf of ‘Aqabah or Jordan, fly 800 miles of Saudi airspace to the Persian Gulf and then 300 miles into Iran. Although the Israelis traversed Saudi airspace when they attacked the Iraqi facility in 1981, Saudi Arabia and Jordan have since significantly upgraded their air defense capabilities and share information with each other.
Since the Israeli air force does not operate stealth aircraft, there is a reasonable expectation that at some point the aircraft will be detected over Saudi Arabia, either by ground based radar or the AWACS airborne radar platforms. Whether Saudi defenses could - or would - be able to stop the Israelis is uncertain. Perhaps the Saudis would turn a blind eye and claim ignorance - after all, a nuclear-armed Iran is a potential threat to the Kingdom as well.
The Iraq option (blue). The strike aircraft depart southern Israel, cross 300 to 400 miles of Saudi airspace or a combination of Jordanian and Saudi airspace, and enter Iraqi airspace as soon as possible, continue across 500 miles of Iraq to the Persian Gulf and then on to the target. Entering Iran from Iraqi airspace would create too much of political firestorm. As it is, the use of Iraqi airspace will require the cooperation of the United States. Although Iraq is a sovereign nation, its skies are controlled by the American military. That said, allowing Israeli aircraft to ingress from Iraq is likely out of the question.
Either of these options carries the risk that once the actual attack on the facility is made, the viability of the return route is in jeopardy – all forces in the area will be on alert. The planners may opt to go to the target one way and back home via another.
The limiting factor in Israeli planning is the great distance to the target. Can Israel’s fighter-bombers conduct this mission without refueling? Combat radius - the distance an aircraft can fly and return without refueling - is difficult to calculate, and depends on weapons payload, external fuel tanks, mission profile, etc. It is even more difficult when dealing with Israeli aircraft because they will not release performance data on their assets.
The best "guestimate" of the combat radius of the F-15I and F-16I, outfitted with conformal fuel tanks, two external wing tanks and a decent weapons load, is almost 1000 miles. Either of the two possible flight routes above is about 200 miles further than that. To make up for the shortfall, the aircraft could be fitted with an additional external fuel tank, but this will require a reduction in the weapons load. Given the accuracy of the weapons in the Israeli inventory, that might not be problematic. However, if the aircraft are detected and intercepted, the pilots will have to jettison the tanks in order to engage their attackers. Dropping the tanks will prevent the aircraft from reaching their target.
Air refueling. This raises the question of air refueling? This is a limitation for the Israelis. While Israel has a large air force, its focus has been on the Arab countries that surround it. In recent years, it has sought the capability to project power against a target over 1000 miles away. To do this, Israel has acquired five B707 tanker aircraft. However, the tankers would have to refuel the fighters in hostile airspace. The B707 is a large unarmed aircraft and would be very vulnerable to air defenses.
Looking at the two scenarios, air refueling over Saudi Arabia (red route) would be very risky. It would have to be done at low altitude to evade detection and will probably be at night. Using Iraqi airspace (blue route) will be somewhat less difficult as altitude will not be an issue.
Of course, the tankers would have to get to Iraqi airspace and back. The use of Turkish airspace for the tanker aircraft to enter Iraq is probably not an option for the same reasons that it is not an option for the fighters – political sensitivities on the part of the Turks and operational security considerations on the part of the Israelis. Another possibility is American cooperation – allow the Israelis to stage their tankers from an American air base in Iraq. These tankers could fly to Iraq though international airspace around the Arabian Peninsula and over the Persian Gulf. It would be too far for them to return to Israel without landing to refuel, otherwise the Israelis could refuel the fighters over the Gulf.
American participation? There are other possibilities, from allowing Israeli fighters to land and refuel at U.S.-controlled bases in Iraq, to having U.S. Air Force tankers refuel the Israeli aircraft over Iraq. A diplomatic nightmare, maybe, but certainly a military possibility.
Theoretically, the Israelis could do this, but at great risk of failure. If they decide to attack Natanz, they will have to inflict sufficient damage the first time - they probably will not be able to mount follow-on strikes at other facilities.
When all the analyses are done, there is only one military capable of the sustained widespread air operations required to eliminate Iran's nuclear weapons research program - the United States. Again, a diplomatic nightmare, but certainly a military possibility.

The shah's air force had more than 450 modern combat aircraft, including top-of-the-line F-14 Tomcat fighters and about 5,000 well-trained pilots. By 1979 the air force, numbering close to 100,000 personnel, was by far the most advanced of the three services and among the most impressive air forces in the developing world. Reliable information on the air force after the Revolution was difficult to obtain, but it seems that by 1987 a fairly large number of aircraft had been cannibalized for spare parts.
A total of 14 air bases are currently operational: Ahvaz, Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, Chan Bahar, Dezful, Doshan Tapeh (Tehran), Ghaleh Morghi (Tehran), Hamadan, Isfahan, Mashhad, Mehrabad (Tehran), Shiraz, Tabriz and Zahedan. Soviet-made aircraft are distributed throughout the country to fufill mission roles of ground attack, transport, training and interception. Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, Dezful, Hamadan, Tabriz and Mehrabad are the centers for ground attack squadrons. Shiraz is the home of the interceptor squadron. Taking on Iran's air force - Defense Tech: Taking on Iran's air force
The stand-off with Iran over its nuclear ambitions was just beginning while I was embedded with Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 332 at Al Asad air base in Iraq. More than once the fliers lamented that they'd probably be back in the States by the time the "inevitable" bombing of Iran got underway.
Me: Oh God. We can't afford a war with Iran
Aviator #1: Whatever. We'd kick their asses.

If, God help us, the stand-off does turn violent, U.S. air power will play a critical role. For months pundits have predicted a massive bombing campaign to target Iran's nuclear facilities, and perhaps even to attempt regime change.
But don't expect Iran's air force to roll over like Iraq's did in 1991 and again in 2003. Unlike the Iraqi air force, the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) appears to be well-armed, well-trained and eager for a fight. Besides the aforementioned F-14 Tomcats, 79 of which the U.S. sold to the country before the Shah was deposed, the air force operates several dozen of each of the following types:

F-4E Phantom
Mirage F1
All told, the IRIAF flies as many as 300 fighters. All are older designs, but have been maintained and, in many cases, upgraded by the indigenous aerospace industry, which has become proficient in reverse-engineering weapons and spare parts -- and perhaps even engines. And the IRIAF has aerial tankers too -- a force multiplier only the most advanced air forces maintain.
Veteran aviation correspondent Tom Cooper and his co-writer Liam Devlin wrote a fascinating feature for a recent issue of Combat Aircraft Magazine, profiling the IRIAF. The authors interviewed IRIAF defectors and U.S. Navy aircrew that have tangled with Iranian fliers over the Arabian Gulf. The feature cautions against the Western habit of underestimating the IRIAF:
In November 2003, a USAF E-3 Sentry flying a patrol over Iraq tracked a formation of no less than 16 IRIAF F-14As ... This was the largest group of Iranian F-14s detected in flight by the U.S. military since 1997, when nine IRIAF Tomcats were tracked over the southern Persian Gulf by the U.S. Navy. ... During the summer of 2005, several Su-24s were observed operating over the Persian Gulf, armed with Chinese-made C802K-2 anti-ship missiles. ... Iranian Phantoms were sighted as well, usually carrying AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-9 Sidewinder [air-to-air missiles].
Now that the 1st Fighter Wing has its first F-22 squadron combat-ready, and with the Navy's Super Hornets equipped with electronically-scanned radars, we have the capability to beat the IRIAF. But it wouldn't necessarily be an easy fight. Throw in Iran's SA-15 surface-to-air missiles and you've got a tough air-defense nut to crack. And remember ... an air campaign might be just a prelude to a ground invasion. Last year I stood on the Iraq-Iran border and listened to Iranian armored divisions throw down practice artillery barrages. The Tennessee National Guardsmen I was with (the 278th cavalry regiment equipped with M-1 Abrams tanks) admitted that they couldn't punch through that border if they wanted to.
We must find a diplomatic solution to the problem of Iran's nuclear ambitions.

They took an F-5E airframe, sized it up to fit their knock-off of the MiG-29 engine, and added a 2nd tail. Horrible by our standards, but it's probably better than 1/2 the stuff being used by the locals over there anyway. The big threat would be that they build it themselves, so if they had a mind to they could possibly compensate for a difference in abilities with US/Euro fighters by spamming it. Tehran, Iran, Jan. 21 – A senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards who once vowed that “no part of the Islamic world is going to be safe and secure for America” was named as the new head of the Guards’ Air Force.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a decree on Saturday, appointing Brigadier General Hossein Salami as the new commander of the Air Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). Another senior Guards commander, Brigadier General Mohammad-Reza Zahedi, was put in charge of the IRGC Ground Forces.
Salami is known as the father of the IRGC’s “asymmetric warfare” doctrine, which he helped to develop in the months preceding the war in Iraq. At the time, Salami was Director of Operations in the IRGC command headquarters.
The military doctrine is based on two components as strategic tools in any military confrontation: the massive use of suicide operations to target U.S. and Western interests around the world, and the use of weapons of mass destruction.
On July 4, 2004, General Salami called for the destruction of the United States during a ceremony to recruit suicide bombers that were willing to attack Western and Israeli targets. Continued

In Service with the IIAFIran ordered a total of 80 Grumman F-14A Tomcats in two batches, one of 30 and another of 50 aircraft, in early 1974. The first F-14 was delivered to the Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF) in January 1976, and the first two units were fully operational by the summer of 1977, by when the training of additional crews was advancing at a very high pace. By late 1978, the 80th F-14 produced to Iran was built as well; instead of being delivered, however, the aircraft was kept in the USA to be used as test-rig for installation of the USAF-style "boom-and-receptacle" in-flight refuelling system. Meanwhile, over 120 Iranian pilots and 80 RIOs were qualified for the Tomcat, and an additional group was about to finish their training. Since 1977 the IIAF F-14s were engaged in a series of tests, which put the plane and its weapons system to the extremes, and eventually ended by several spectacular test-firings of AIM-54s, two of which might have scored unofficial world-records for the range, speed, and the height reached by the missiles in flight. In October 1978 also two IIAF F-14As intercepted a high and fast-flying Soviet MiG-25 over the Casspian sea, forcing it to abort a recce run over Iran, and in turn ending similar Soviet operations over the country. group
The first and only country to receive F-14 Tomcat was, The Nirouyeh Havaiyeh Shahanshahiye Iran, or Imperial Iranian Air Force. Soviet MiG-25 Foxbat had regularly been flying unrestricted over Iranian territory, and IIAF had no mean of intercepting these high-speed intruders. Thus, the search for a new fighter/interceptor begun. Iranian pilots were virtually flown and tested every fighter available at the time including MiG's (some done secretly in other countries). The final report which indicated pro's and con's of each fighter suggested the F-14 Tomcat and F-15 Eagle as the best fighters. In August of 1973, the IIAF selected the F-14 Tomcat ( From 1970 Iraq was in contact with French government to equip their Air Force with Mirage F-1, this was another factor for IIAF to choose F-14 and start planning for purchase, operation and training for F-14). The initial order signed in January of 1974 covered 30 Tomcats, but in June 50 more were added to the contract.At the same time, the Iranian government-owned Bank-e-Melli stepped in, and agreed to loan Grumman $75 million to partially make up for a US government loan of $200 million to Grumman, which had just been cancelled. This loan save the F-14 program and enabled Grumman to secure a further loan of $125 million from a consortium of American banks, ensuring at least for the moment that the F-14 program would continue. The Iranian Tomcats were virtually identical to the US Navy version, with only a few classified avionics items being omitted. The base site for Iranian Tomcat operations was at Isfahan’s (Khatami Air Force Base) and 1 Squadron at Shiraz Tactical Fighter Base. The Iranian Tomcats were fairly late on the production line, and were therefore delivered with the TF30-P-414 engine, which was much safer than the compressor-stall-prone P-412 engine. The first 2 of 79 Tomcats arrived in Iran in January of 1976. By May of 1977, when Iran celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Royal House, 12 had been delivered. At this time, the Soviet MiG-25 Foxbats were still making a nuisance of themselves by flying over Iran, and the Shah ordered live firing tests of the Phoenix to be carried out as a warning. In August of 1977, IIAF crews shot down a BQM-34E drone flying at 50,000 feet, and the Soviets took the hint and Foxbat over flights promptly ended.
The IIAF Tomcats bore the US Navy serial numbers of 160299/160378, and were assigned the IIAF serial numbers 3-863 to 3-892 and 3-6001 to 3-6050. The last of 79 Tomcats were delivered to Iran in 1978. The last Iranian Tomcat (BuNo 170378) was retained in the USA for use as a test bed. Iran also ordered 714 AIM-54A Phoenix missiles, but only 284 had been delivered at the time. Toward the end of the 1970s most suppliers were cancelled by the new government, including an order for 400 AIM-54A Phoenix missiles.
Imposition of a strict arms embargo against Iran by the West caused a severe spare parts and maintenance problem, with many pilots and maintenance personnel following the Shah into exile. As a result, by 1980 the Iranian Air Force was only a shadow of its former self. This embargo was to have an especially severe long-term effect on the Tomcat fleet, since the embargo prevented the delivery of any spares.
The Iran-Iraq war began on September 22, 1980 with an Iraqi air attack on six Iranian air bases and four Iranian army bases. It was followed by an Iraqi land attack at four points along a 700-kilometer front. Air power did not play a dominant role in the Iran-Iraq war. During the first phase of the war, Iranian aircraft had the fuel and the endurance to win most of these aerial encounters, either by killing Iraqi aircraft with their first shot of an AIM-9 sidewinder or else by forcing Iraqi fighters to withdraw. Iranian pilots had the edge in training and experience, but as the war dragged on, this edge was gradually lost because of the repeated purges within the ranks of the Iranian officers which removed experienced officers and pilots who were suspected of disloyalty to the Islamic regime. The Iranians could not generate more than 30-60 sorties per day, whereas the number of sorties that Iraq could mount steadily increased year after year, reaching a peak as high as 600 in 1986-88.
It is extremely difficult to get any reliable estimates of just how many Iranian F-14As were in service at any one time during the war, with planes having been deliberately cannibalized to keep some flying. In the summer of 1984, it is estimated that Iran could fly only 15-20 Tomcats, maintaining them largely by cannibalization. Very often, Tomcat served in a mini-AWACS role by virtue of their powerful radars and was deliberately not risked in combat.
The Iraqi high command had order all it's pilots not to engage with F-14 and do not get close if F-14 is known to be operating in the area. Usually the presence of Tomcats was enough to scare the enemy and send the Iraqi fighters back.
The Iranian F-14s scored most of their kills with AIM-54A Phoenix missiles during the war with Iraq losing only one Tomcat in combat when it got cut off-guard by a MiG-21 (Pilot "Ale Agha" and Rio...??. Lost their life).Another Tomcat was lost due to loss of control when the aircraft entered in spin (Both pilot and RIO Ejected).And a Ground to air missile hit another Tomcat over "Khark" island (Pilot was Capt. Hazin).
It is documented that Iranian F-14As have shot down Iraqi fighters, including Mirage F1s, SU-22, MiG-21, MiG-23, and MiG-25. An Iranian Tomcat scored a kill against an Iraqi Mirage F1 as late as the spring of 1988.
Iranian capabilities in this area may have taken place on February 11, 1985, when 25 Iranian F-14A Tomcats took a mass fly by over Tehran. In spite of the Western arms embargo, Iran been able to maintain a more-or-less steady supply of spare parts for its fleet of Tomcats, from Iranian aircraft industries based at 1st tactical air base in Tehran. The number of Tomcats in service with Iran is reported as many as 60 aircrafts. Some of these parts also seem to have been smuggled into Iran by Israel. Also there is rumor of Russians provided assistance to upgrade tomcats aging airframe. US government supplied arms to Iran in exchange for its assistance in getting hostages held in Lebanon released.
However, the AN/AWG-9 radar is certainly operational, and the Iranian Tomcats can fire AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-7 Sparrow missiles. Most Iranian Tomcats flew with a missile load of four Sparrows and two Sidewinders.
Rumors had been going about that Iranian F-14As had been fitted with the Russian made engine and ejection seat and has the capability to launch air-to-surface anti-ship missiles.

I seek nether fame or fortune, but the very principles of freedom, seeking a better understanding of my world future generations shall inherit. Early emigrants of the new world in the Americas, and those that followed from all reaches of the world, bringing with them ideologies as diverse as the food we eat, have been able to live in peace because of the sacrifices of the Civil War patriots, a nation divided cannot stand, a people united will prevail. Whoever is Ephraim and Manasseh today must have been in possession of the earth’s choicest agricultural, mineral, iron, oil (carbon monoxide), coal (acid rain), nuclear energy (nuclear waste), timber and other resources.

It is within our grasp to defeat fascism if we unite in the effort and exploitation of renewable energy technologies will pave the way for our future energy needs if only we marry ourselves as a nation of people to these goals, yet dishonoring our own does noting for our cause.
Every year in America 100,000s of teenagers are becoming of voting age and if there not to deep into video games, televising the events of 9/11 should be at least an annual tradition to keep everyone sober, and God forbid an even greater tragedy occur, we may begin televising more often attacks from Shake-n-Bake NUTS on us or our allies.

My father now is proud of me I'm sure, but when I joined the Navy he boycotted my graduation. Now he’s a constitutional ranger as many years ago he evolved and followed his personal religious beliefs rather then an institution or a man. Sometimes you have to break out for yourself and your own ideas.
The issues of today are not unlike those of yesterday, whether we as a nation of free people will up hold what is wrong or right, whether we will support the ideals of the past, remain stead fast in our devotion to liberty and if necessary give our lives for the preservation of the living constitution.
Before us, possibly our greatest challenge of a nation faces us, and what we do to change the tides will dictate our future, a future counted in blood from countless Patriots who gave their lives so we could be secure in our homes from oppression both at home and aboard.
We find ourselves embroiled in diversity as to whether we should fight those who oppose our very way of life, diversity that comes from both Americans and people from every nation as to whether we should unite to fight a global war on terror, the stake of humanity itself in the balance.
It is not for me to say, that our allies are with us or not, but by their actions alone, we will no who stands on the side of right and who stands on the side of wrong.

I would like to remind everyone that the USA and France have never been at war against each other.
Our countries have fought side by side from the very beginning, in Norfolk and elsewhere, to help your ancestors win the Revolutionary War, to help them set up a free and independent nation you can be proud of.
I also wish to remind everyone that the Statue of Liberty, standing in New York Harbor, was given by the people of France to the people of the United States, in October 1886, in recognition of the friendship established between our 2 countries during the American Revolution. As we all know, this statue, now a world heritage site, has grown as the most universal symbol of political freedom and democracy, two values that we have been sharing from the very beginning and will continue to share.
A few decades after this famous statue was given to your country, both our countries fought again side by side during WWI. During that terrible war, France, a country the size of Texas, with a population of less than 38 million people at the time, paid a very high price with the death of more than 1.4 million young men and women.
During that War, just like Lafayette's soldiers did for the newly established United State, thousands of young American soldiers, under the command of General Pershing, gave their lives to enable my country to recover its liberty. In all nations of the world, there are those who seek liberty above all things, and while it may not be visible and public sentiments both in the United States and abroad sometimes seem unwilling to openly criticize fascism in all it’s form, throughout the world, when the cry of Freedom is heard, true believers of liberty will assemble, defeating thy enemy, for right is surely on the side of true Patriots.
In the up coming trials and tribulations we as a people must endure, surely the greatest threat is ourselves if we don’t unite in a common effort, a common goal, to defeat fascism, the very enemy to liberty.
As Americans assemble at our State Capital on the 12th of August, 10,000 strong, protesting our nation’s involvement in the Iraq War, support of Israel from un provoked attacks from those only desirous of their defeat, with one goal, the extermination of the State of Israel and the Jewish people, and our continued support of young democracies in Afghanistan Iraq and Lebanon, that given time will flourish if those influencing through terror tactics are defeated; let us remember, that Americans in there diversity, who themselves desire peace, are frustrated with the resolve of our President to protect them, feel the only course is to back off, in hopes that fascism will some how go away or not approach our boarders if we give in and let Hezbollah, the Taliban, and al Qaeda do what they want, to who they want, when ever they want to do it.
To step back now, is to usurer in our defeat, to go forward, with the resolve our ancestors during the Civil War and our Revolutionary War had, the resolve of true Patriots to the Temple of the Pillars of Liberty, will see our way through the trials and tribulations of the future.
When the descendants of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh throughout all reaches and parts of the world unite against a common threat, the threat of true believers of liberty, fascism in all its form will be defeated.
Where Joseph’s descedants emigrated too throughout the world, we know not, but we can assume their with us today, emigrating to all reaches of the world, to include the new world, present day South and North Americas, from countries in Europe from France, Germany, Spain, Great Brittan, Australia, Holland and countless other countries, nations themselves divided on issues confronting every free spirited soul.
In general, people of all nationalities with the exception of Hezbollah, the Taliban, and al Qaeda desire peace, but during trying times, its often easier to follow rather then lead, allowing others to dictate your future in fear of retaliation.
The Lebanese people have been terrorized so long, their accustomed to it and until that day, when their oppressors are squelched, they will know no peace, nor will they embrace liberty, Freedom, Equality and Justice for all.
Make no doubt about it, their defeat is our own, and if democracy can only exist in the United States of America or those countries who seek our governments protection to preserve their liberties, then Freedom will not prevail for the subjects who take liberty fore granted.
Enemies of Freedom are the enemies to mankind and fascism in all its form has no place in a free society, and if I must choose a side, I choose the side of liberty.
